Just on the outskirts of the cobbled streets of Edinburgh lies Lauriston Castle and within it, for four more dates only, is a magical experience within the walls of the stately home itself. Enter for an afternoon of close-up magic, nigh-unbelievable mystical history and a special tour of this iconic 16th century Scottish tower house with 19th century updates and extensions.
Lauriston Castle holds a few secret doors and stairways, and in this delightful experience we’re granted a peak at these mysteries. Event operators, the Edinburgh International Magic Festival, have excellently designed this experience, with the attendees split up into three groups and guided between three different expert magicians each with their own flair be it sleight of hand, cards or mentalism. Our steward between the three is a passionate history buff, Lauriston Castle guide Niamh, a font of knowledge with a flair for pointing out the most intriguing tidbits of history in each room.
Each magician captivates the audience within a different, ornate Edwardian-era room, dazzling with incredible tricks and regaling the group with tales of the castle’s eccentric previous owners, including poor gambler and currency innovator and financier John Law.
