With a sell-out show, the heat was on, literally, as Jimeoin managed to skate his way to a hundred laughs or more.
It must be an age thing, or maybe I'm just really uncultured (I am from the Borders) as once again I was faced with a comic I didn't know.
Giving himself a "mini warm up," Jimeoin explained he didn't want us to hurt ourselves with laughter to early on. It was probably best kept till later before we pulled something. As he made this claim, I began to wonder when this big laugh would come, but I seemed to wait in vain. Maybe he was just being ironic, and if so, this makes it a lot funnier.
Instead, his jokes were more like 100 little fireworks, sometimes all going off at once, and sometimes building to the big flashy finale, but then again sometimes not.
Jimeoin's humour is a lot subtler than some of the more generic comedians out there at the moment. His multi-faceted tales play on everyday occurrences - this is where the real jokes lie. He points out that those things that you do that you believe to be odd, actually show that you are pretty damn normal.
In all honesty, I found myself wondering what really was going on, as a lot of the humour seemed lost on me. This is something that has maybe happened after seeing one too many stand ups. That's not to say I don't appreciate his timing and delivery.
Possibly more of an acquired taste in comedy, Jimeoin is a worthwhile experience. Never giving you that much, he makes it all look so easy. And for someone who used to be a builder, who knew that it could be possible.
