Description

Celebrating it's 36th birthday, the annual Country Market raises up to £15,000. With a vast array of stalls on offer including Home Baking, Clothes, Flowers, Fruit and Vegetables, Larder, Plants, Toys, Sweets, Books, Bric a Brac and Accessories.

In addition to the stalls at the market Save the Children will also run a country café offering teas, coffees, sandwiches and traybakes for the duration of the market, a Save the Children stall and a Raffle with lots of fantastic prizes.

One of the highlights of the Country Market will be the Haddington Pipe Band who will march up the High Street at 10:45 entertaining both locals and visitors alike as volunteers holding a huge Save The Children banner collect for the charity.

For the past 40 years Save the Children Scotland has worked with some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children in Scotland. However 240,000 children in Scotland still live in poverty - that's one in four young people whose parents struggle to get by every day.

90,000 of these children are living in the most severe poverty where there simply isn't enough money to pay for essential items; even the basic necessities such as winter coats, nutritious food and meeting the costs of going back-to-school, all of which can be crippling for families on such a low income.

Save the Children in Scotland is committed to making sure that children's rights are respected and protected across Scotland and that local councils and the Scottish and UK governments keep their promises to end child poverty.

Whenever a disaster strikes, children are the most vulnerable. Save the Children responds quickly in an emergency to save lives and help families cope after a disaster. In Pakistan over 50,800 people have been reached through emergency medical care and the distribution of food and shelter items.

Contributions for the Save the Children Annual Country Market will be welcomed at The Corn Exchange, Haddington, on Friday 01 October 2010 from 09:00 - 12:00 and from 13:30 - 18:00. Contributions may also be collected by arrangement. Please contact Anna Smaill on 01875 820757.
