Scotland's biggest bike ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh. Edinburgh riders can get the bus from Craighall Road adjacent to the western side of Victoria Park (where the ride finishes) in the early morning through to Glasgow (book ahead). The ride itself starts by the Winter Gardens at Glasgow Green between 8am and 10am and ends at Victoria Park, Edinburgh (which has a feeding station).

Over 5000 cyclists of all levels of ability and competitiveness typically join the charity ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh.

There are three main levels of compeition:

  • Challenge Ride – the classic 51 mile Glasgow to Edinburgh Challenge.
  • Sportive Ride – a new 100 mile Glasgow to Edinburgh route aimed at the keen road cyclist.
  • Family Ride – a short 3-mile off-road ride for families, youngsters and new cyclists.

Mark Beaumont, who broke the record for circumnavigating the world by bicycle, and then recently completed a cycle ride from Alaska to the southern tip of South America, will start the ride on Sunday.

Previous events have featured a number of high profile riders including Alastair Campbell, the former Downing Street spin doctor and a keen sportsman and patron of Leukaemia Research, and Nicola Sturgeon, the Deputy First Minister, and Mark Beaumont, the cyclist who set the world record for cycling around the world.

Last year, riders raised over £230,000 partner Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres.
