Departure Lounge breaks our bi-monthly pattern to bring you another tasty Triptych special as we present the king of leftfield beats and tastemaker no. 1 Gilles Peterson. Not only that, but we are also highly excited to have the impossibly talented Jazz Doctor 73 and his band providing the live element for the evening.
As Departure Lounge remains one of the only clubs left in Scotland staying true to the original jazz mentality, it has been only a matter of time before Mr Peterson made his visit to the club, following in the footsteps of contemporary scene-makers Patrick Forge and Paul Murphy. We probably don't need to hit you with the full GP biography here, just to remind you that he has been successfully keeping ahead of the curve for over 20 years, both through his Radio 1 Worldwide show and successive groundbreaking record labels Acid Jazz, Talking Loud and now Brownswood. You just need to check his show for a taste of what you might get when Gilles hits the decks, but having one of the largest record collections known to man means you just have to come and listen and find out. All we can say is that it WILL be tasty.
We also have to confess to being equally excited about our live band for this evening. Dan Goldman aka Jazz Doctor 73 has been the first call master keyboard man for over a decade on numerous productions and live shows including Ty, Morcheeba, Nightmares On Wax, Corrine Bailey Rae and Roots Manuva. More recently Dan has been building his own JD73 project, a bastard fusion of cosmic funk, electro, future jazz and broken beat, with influences ranging from Herbie Hancock, The Roots, Bill Withers, Jimi Hendrix and Jazzanova.
Check this live video of JD73's band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpN7FlX_0JA
JD73's debut long player, Ones And Zeros has just been released on heavyweight US label Ropadope, and the band are hitting the stage hard with a juicy four piece line-up featuring Cinematic Orchestra's outstanding drummer Luke Flowers and guitarist Stuart Macallum.
Support of course comes from DL residents Astroboy, Jiminez, Zimmers and Cammy.

Hold up! Late news is that Jose James will be MCing alongside Gilles at this gig, so if you were dithering, what better reason to make your mind up!
If you don't know, Jose has been making big waves with his debut LP on Brownswood. His style is remeniscent of Mark Murphy with a serious B-Boy attitude. Not your average MC, and definately the icing on the cake!
