Media

The internet age has brought on a painful transformation for traditional media everywhere, and the press in Edinburgh and Scotland is no exception with constant rounds of cost-cuttings and consolidations in print media as it struggles to survive and remain relevant.

Newspapers and magazines are morphing into digital entities, as their traditional readership shrinks and is replaced by those weaned on social media and real time news.

It's been an easier transition for broadcast media, but the internet age has changed the media landscape in the last decade beyond all recognition.

That sweep of change is reflected in the greater numbers, each year, of online media folk at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh Television Festival, the industry pow-wow in Edinburgh in August.

Media is, also, always a gnarly subject for attendees at the Festival of Politics to get their teeth into.

Edinburgh and Scotland Radio & Television content

Online, the lines between broadcast and webcast media have blurred to the point where it's difficult to distinguish the two. This list of Edinburgh content providers is probably incomplete, but the obvious destinations are here.

  • BBC Scotland Scottish news from the Beeb and you can catch webcasts of Scottish affairs, arts and entertainment.
  • Black Diamond FM The Midlothian Community radio station.
  • Radio Forth Edinburgh's local commercial FM radio station. Aka Forth One.
  • STV Scotland's television station.
