The menu at Pomegranate is designed to encourage the culinary art of sharing a selection of Mezze – small savoury tapas - an appetising range of traditional, spicy meat and vegetarian specialities from Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran.
My partner and I chose three dishes each to share between us - quite adequate for a pre-theatre supper. Our banquet included Tabbouleh, Hummus, Batata Harra, delicious hot chilli-spiced fried potatoes, Aubergines stuffed with rice, Samboussek (Lebanese samosas stuffed with vegetables) and a basket of huge Naan bread. Served with olives and green salad, the cuisine is very fresh, tasty and healthy.
Soft drinks and non-alcoholic wine and beer are served, but with a BYOB policy you are welcome to bring your own bottle of wine, (no corkage fee).
For a hearty meal, start with a cold or hot Mezze as an appetiser and then a main course such as Bamya, a spicy Okra stew with basmati rice, Prawn, Chicken or Lamb Kebab served with bread and salad. Finish with a refreshing Mango sorbet or Baklawa, sweet filo pastry filled with pistgachio nuts.
Alternatively, drop in to Pomegranate during the day for a cup of traditional Cha (Cardamom tea), Mint Tea or Arabic coffee with a Turkish Delight cupcake – and perhaps try your hand at smoking a Shisha pipe at an outdoor patio table.
Downstairs, a new intimate Salon is designed and draped like a Desert Tent with low tables and soft cushions, the perfect venue for private dinner parties on an Arabian Nights theme.
