£10 Challenge: Mosque Kitchen

The final restaurant in my challenge - just five minutes away from Mums is the Edinburgh Central Mosque. Not that I suggest you seek some kind of spiritual salvation after eating so much. The Mosque Kitchen next to Potterrow is rightfully becoming an Edinburgh institution. Serving up excellently home-cooked curries seven days a week, from midday to teatime; this is the perfect place to come for a quick fill while on the move.

Situated in the courtyard, but under canvas, a necessary requirement for Edinburgh’s “changeable” weather, the kitchen serves lamb, chicken or vegetable curries with a choice of daal, saag aloo, chickpeas, koftas and tandoori chicken legs to heap your plate up with. It’s all paper plates and plastic spoons, but there is an effortlessly peaceful and friendly atmosphere. A perfect spot for replenishment, no overview of where to eat well on a budget in Edinburgh would be complete without mention of the Mosque Kitchen.
