The Edinburgh Film Festival has a small number of side events for filmmakers or those looking to get into the industry. John Sweeney, who taught business studies at London Metropolitan University and founded MetLab, gave a talk about making films that can be commercially successful. While it's often an approach that creative people dislike Sweeney did throw up some useful bits of information. His students started with a poster of the film before everything else to help them visualise the overall project (he distributed a pile of postcards with the creatives) and he looked at why some genres were more successful than others. I left wanting to write a teen movie script.
