Fri 28th Jan - A Stand Up Burns Supper - Live Comedy Burn's Night at Voodoo Rooms

VLADIMIR McTAVISH, NEIL MCFARLANE, JAMES KIRK, CAMMY SINCLAIR, compere VIV GEE

What better way to celebrate Robbie Burn’s than with the finest of Scotland’s comedians, a Burns supper and a glass of whisky? We’re cramming all this into our excellent value ticket.

Comedians

VLADIMIR McTAVISH

After 2009's sell-out success looking at great icons of Scottish history and culture, in 2010 'Scotland's top satirical stand-up' (Morning Star), turned his attention to our national drink. During 2010’s festival Vlad narrated a tour round whisky country and a hilariously sobering look at drink and its role in the Caledonian psyche. An Eejit's Guide to The Bevvy. Ideal for malt connoisseurs, tee-totallers and binge-drinkers alike.

NEIL MCFARLANE

Neil reached the Scottish semi-final of the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2001, so technically that means he's been on the telly (for the 7 people who had BBC THREE at the time). If you really want to stretch the point, he's also been on 15 to 1 twice, and has the dubious honour of being the only contestant in the show's history to have been told off by William G. Stewart for slouching. He has never had a review, and yet he suspects he is under surveillance...

JAMES KIRK & CAMMY SINCLAIR – Up and coming acts, a quick taste for the future.

Hot new stand up act James (So You Think You Are Funny 2010 winner). His short set will illustrate why he won most of the most celebrated competitions in stand up comedy.

Surrealist folk singer Cammy (co-star of the 2010 fringe hit Cammy and Phil Kay’s Late Night Nonsense) promises us a set of ‘funny Scottish songs’.

compere VIV GEE

Viv is a trained actor and performance poet as well as a stand-up comedian. Previous gigs include compering T in the Park and Glasgow’s Hogmanay as well as supporting Mark Thomas, Jo Brand and Henry Rollins. She has also been a finalist in the So You Think You’re Funny and the BBC’s New Comedy Awards.

TV and radio appearances include Stake Out and Hedz for CBBC, Revolver, The Key, and Velvet Soup for BBC 2, The Today Programme for Radio 4, Fred Macaulay Show, Cover Stories, Comedy Café and Velvet Cabaret all for Radio Scotland.

A BURNS SUPPER

The Voodoo Room’s Restaurant are serving a Burns supper to all attendees. This would traditionally comprise a main course portion of Haggis mashed potatoes (tatties) and mashed turnip (neeps). We’ll be providing you with a Whisky to toast the Haggis. No doubt we’ll be keeping the tradition alive with some Robbie Burns poetry. We may even find a friend who can play the bagpipes.
