Vivid watercolours exhibition to go on display
at exclusive new Edinburgh Art Space
Edinburgh born Claudia Petretti has been chosen as one of the first artists to exhibit at new Edinburgh art space, the Sarah Dallas Gallery. Her first solo exhibition for two years, the gallery will display a range of Petretti’s large, colourful watercolour and pastel works, all taking inspiration from European landscapes and images of everyday life.
Striking and vivid, the artworks are described by the artist as ‘colourful and haphazard’ and depict quaint street scenes and exotic, colourful gardens. Highlights of the exhibition include Giardino Rosa and Teatro, a delicate portrait of a theatre in a city street.
Claudia comments: “It’s great to have my works on display such an exciting new space. Each painting is a composite picture made up from a number of sources – things I have collected over time. Rather than being directly representational they are designed to evoke a feeling, idea or memory, of somewhere the viewer would like to be. I look forward to opening the exhibition and seeing the reaction.”
The expressive works have all been completed recently and this will be first time they will go on display to the public. They will also be available to purchase.
Claudia Petretti has featured in solo and group exhibitions in galleries across Edinburgh, Glasgow and London for almost twenty years. Claudia has lived in the capital for most of her life and regularly draws inspiration for her collections from her extensive travels to Europe.
Her watercolours are visual recordings of colours, patterns, textures and rhythms found in the views around us depicted in a palette of rich blues, oranges and pinks - from the decorative facades of cafes and gelateria to summer gardens dancing with colour and inhabited with butterflies and birds. When in Edinburgh, she regularly seeks inspiration from the beautiful Inveresk Lodge Gardens on the outskirts of the city.
Claudia Petretti’s exhibition opens on September 30th 2010 at the Sarah Dallas Gallery, Stockbridge, Edinburgh. The gallery is a new contemporary art space which opened in July this year to exhibit paintings, sculpture and jewellery.
Claudia also runs daytime and evening art classes in the Edinburgh area.
