Leading London Arts Funder Supports A Series Of Craft And Design Exhibitions This Summer In Scotland At Edinburgh’s Dovecot Studios 30 April – 5 September 2010
The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, An Important Independent Grant Making Foundation, Is Working Closely With Two Scottish Organisations, Ic:Innovative Craft And Dovecot Studios To Support A Series Of Artist Led Events Which Will Be Exhibiting Contemporary Objects In New And Unexpected Ways.
This new series of exhibitions at
The opening series, ‘MATTER’, put together by Adam Paxon will consist of four 10 day long exhibitions, each highlighting a different designer. Starting on 30 April each will open on a Friday and be open daily to the public for 10 consecutive days, including Sundays, from 10.30 – 7.30.
In chronological order Adam’s featured designers will be emerging practitioner, Drummond Masterton (who trained at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen in digital design and metalwork/dates 30 April – 9 May); established jewellery artist Charlotte De Syllas (a unique opportunity to see a collection of different works from this expert in stone carving and jewellery which will bring together many pieces from private collections/dates: 14 – 23 May); Lina Peteron (a young Swedish jeweller who will be moving her workshop into the gallery to create works live with visitors/dates 28 May – 6 June) and David Poston (whose interest and decades long expertise in the uses of making and Intermediate Technology has given him a dual career as a sculptore and jewellery and development work in Africa/dates 25 June – 4 July).
From 9 July a collection of 10 artists and designers will be brought together by Jim Partridge and Liz Walmsley for their curated exhibition ‘SITTING AND LOOKING’. This eight week exhibition will include photographs by Gary Fabian Miller, furniture design by El Ultimo Grito and Thomas Heatherwick; ceramics by Gordon Baldwin and Rupert Spira and jewellery by Dutch artist Nel Linssen.

David Weir of Dovecot Studios adds: Over the past eighteen months, IC and Dovecot have worked closely together to host exhibitions, such as Weaving Influences and Taking Time which celebrate the links between art, craft and design in imaginative new ways. Our artist’ projects develop this as we move into our next phase in this wonderful building.
