Taking the headline DJ slot, we are delighted to have secured the services of Kraak & Smaak. Based out of Holland, this trio of producers and DJs came to the attention of heads worldwide back in 2005 with their stunning debut player “Boogie Angst”, an irresitable feelgood blend of disco, house, afro-latin, breakbeat and jazz. The album received instant support from the heavy-hitters – Annie Nightingale, Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Rob Da Bank and even Pete Tong got in on the act. Their remixology is also impressive – Jamiroquai, Mark Rae, Richard Dormeister, Skeewiff and recently Sam Sparro have had the K&S touch. They are coming to Scotland for an exclusive date prior to a US tour alongside Fort Knox Five.

While their live band continues to kill it across the biggest stages – they supported Faithless on a European tour recently – the core members are avid DJs and record collectors who are happy spinning everywhere from basement funk sessions to Ibiza superclubs. It’s this combination of real musical appreciation and a big room mentality that makes the music of Kraak & Smaak so entertaining – everyone can get into it. So for this exclusive Scottish debut DJ set we can expect a very healthy mix of proper beats and basslines tempered with old school funk, Latin goodness and a touch of jazz – ideal for the Departure Lounge massive methinks. http://www.kraaksmaak.com

So who else would want on support duties but Edinburgh’s number one funk outfit…The Freaky Family. Based around the soulful vocals of Mike Kearney and Hendrix-esque guitar-work of the virtuoso Aki Remaly, these guys know how to lay down a tasty groove live in the house. They hark back to the heady days of 70’s Motown with an edgy urban spice, and with a horn section specially commissioned for this gig, we have a stage show so full of soul, groove and muscle that you’ll be swinging from the rafters in no time. http://www.myspace.com/freakyfamily

And no Departure Lounge is complete without our boys laying down the law to kick things of. Astroboy, Mr Zimbabwe & Jiminez will be negotiating newborn babies and expectant partners to heat things up with their freestyle blend of global beats.
