Unique to Edinburgh in the
home of Scotland's
stories, this one-of-a-kind event is an evening of live storytelling, poetry,
music and song in a welcoming café atmosphere. The monthly Storytelling Café evenings
provide the perfect opportunity for visitors and local residents to explore Scotland's vital storytelling heritage and experience this
vibrant, entertainment artform.

Hosted by one of Scotland's professional
storytellers who sets the pace of the evening with a
monthly theme, the audience are treated to captivating tales, with
contributions encouraged from anyone who wants to give it a go. Since the Café began in September 2006, many have taken up the
invitation to contribute to the evening's programme. But with no obligation to step into the limelight, for
many the Café is about sitting back, relaxing
and enjoying the entertainment of one of our oldest art forms, ensuring this tradition is
continued. Whether you're a storyteller or just
curious about live oral storytelling,
the laid-back atmosphere, good food and genial company make for a great night
out.

September's Café on the 9th marks the beginning of the Centre's
busy autumn programme. The night is hosted by Jean Edmiston whose inclusive, creative approach
ensures a pleasurable evening in her company, as she delves into exploring Autumn.

For October's Café on
the 14th, to reflect on the Centre's events (interactive play Chrystal and the General about the suffragette movement and our Love, Create, Heal sessions
in partnership with the Pregnancy and Parents Centre,
Edinburgh), Judy Paterson explores Women and Men - a topic that's sure to get a
reaction! Judy's sessions are always full of activity and interaction,
often incorporating stories of diverse cultures.

The November
Café on the 18th is hosted by Renita Boyle who's been described as ‘a powerball of imagination and inventiveness'. With a
particular fondness for moral tales and faith stories, she will explore Winged Creatures, to coincide with the Angels and Archangels exhibition.

The Centre's café offers a light menu from 6pm along with delicious fresh coffees
and cake, fine wines and beers all evening. So whether you are a budding storyteller, or just an
enthusiastic listener, the Storytelling Café provides a unique way of exploring the
art of live oral storytelling
for yourself.
