*UPDATE - The Lady Boys of Bangkok will be donning their pink kilts to walk with us and Clanadonia will be using their unique pipe and drums performance to keep it tribal!!!**

The Kilt Walk is a sponsored event taking place on the 22nd August 2009 and is a chance for all the family to proudly wear your kilt, along with hundreds of other tartan walkers, on a 5km route around some of Scotland’s most famous sights.

Starting and finishing at the Ross Theatre in Edinburgh’s West Princes Street Gardens, the route loops round the Gardens, past the back of Edinburgh Castle, before dropping back down to the finish directly below the mighty Castle ramparts!

On the day we are expecting some celebrity support. Watch this space for further details but for starters Scottish rugby stars will be taking part in the walk. There will also be a great Scottish themed raffle taking place after the walk.

The build-up to the walk starts at 11am with a foot-stomping ceilidh to get you warmed up. The Walk will start at 12pm, and should take a maximum of one hour to complete. Every participant will receive an event t-shirt and a scottish-themed goodie bag.

There’s a host of entertainment planned at the Ross Theatre, featuring Scottish bands Imelsa, the Commotion Women Drummers and Cantara. There will also be family-themed entertainment throughout the day, including a performance by the Edinburgh Postal Pipe Band, face-painting and a competition for the best tartan-clad walker.

The walk is designed to be a fun event to raise much needed funding for the Rock Trust charity that works in Edinburgh and West Lothian with homeless and socially excluded young people between the ages of 16 and 25 years. The Trust’s aim is to provide opportunities for young people to develop the personal, social and practical skills, as well as the sense of self worth necessary for independent adult life.
