for All the Family in Edinburgh this Weekend
A
packed programme of events is taking place across Edinburgh over the
May bank holiday weekend (1-4 May). Innovative events suitable for all
tastes are
planned including a treasure trail around the city's monuments, ghostly
tales
of long forgotten Edinburgh characters at the Museum of Edinburgh and
The People's Story Museum, expressive art at the Writers' Museum and
special tours of Lauriston Castle.

Deidre Brock, Culture Leader for the City of Edinburgh Council, said:
"People
of all ages will be spoilt for choice with all the exciting and
informative
events on offer in Edinburgh during the Show Scotland weekend
2009. Thrill-seekers will be spooked and enthralled by tales of
ghostly goings-on at the Museum of Edinburgh and the People's Story
Museum, while the team at Lauriston Castle gives an insight into
Edwardian Edinburgh. Poetry in Motion will send participants on a
fun-packed and fascinating treasure trail around statues and monuments
in the
heart of Edinburgh, putting their knowledge of Scotland's inspiring
Capital to the test."

Why
not test your knowledge of the Capital with The City of Edinburgh Council's Poetry in Motion event? Members of the
public are invited to take part in a treasure trail around statues and
monuments in central Edinburgh with the answers being found along the way. Join
the trail from 2 different locations on 2 May; 11am, St Bernard's Well, Water
of Leith or 11am, The National Monument, Calton Hill and

Ghostly
Storytelling : Free admission
The
Museum of Edinburgh and The People's Story Museum will be discovering the characters of Old Edinburgh with storytellers
recounting tales and bringing real characters to life. But beware, there may be

Warlocks and Witches : Free admission
The
Writers' Museum will be showcasing expressive art inspired by the words of
Robert Burns, created from a series of specialist creative writing and art
workshops. 'Warlocks and Witches in
a Dance' is a joint venture between the Writers' Museum, the Royal Blind School and Pentland Art Club and will be on display from

Lauriston Castle
Lauriston Castle, in partnership with Living Lauriston Drama Group, will present
special tours of Lauriston Castle focusing on the role of the servants in an
Edwardian household. Spring was the time
for sprucing up the house for the year ahead.
The house would be buzzing with the sound of servants hard at work. The Lady's Maid would be busy mending Mrs
Reid's winter wardrobe before packing it away and then preparing her spring
wardrobe for the new season. "Spick and Span" will take place on 2
