GUIDE DOGS NEWS RELEASE
APRIL 2009
TOW-PATH CANAL RIDE
People in Scotland are getting a chance to see the country from a unique
perspective - and raise money for charity.
Guide Dogs are inviting cyclists on a bike ride along canal towpaths from Glasgow
to Edinburgh, via the world famous Falkirk Wheel, on May 9.
Bookings for the event are being taken now by guide dog owner Sandy Miller, who
is organising the event to raise sponsorship funds for the charity.
He says: "The Glasgow to Edinburgh cycle challenge is a superb opportunity to
keep fit and stay safe for all the family.
"It follows the 50 mile route of the Forth and Clyde/Union Canals.
"Britain's waterways are a wonderful but under-used part of our heritage, which
provide a green lung through our cities.
"There is no better way to connect with nature than spending time on a canal tow-
path, and I hope the people of Scotland will use this event as a way of
introducing youngsters to their birthright."
Guide Dogs is a charity which brings independence, confidence, and mobility to
blind and partially sighted people.
Food and drinks are supplied by companies throughout Scotland for competitors
who agree to raise more than £50 in sponsorship.
