Lesley's Marathon Inspired By Children and Donkeys

LESLEY'S MARATHON INSPIRED BY CHILDREN AND DONKEYS

15 April 2009, 11.47am: News release issued by The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust's Press Office

A
lady from Portobello near Edinburgh is running this year's Albert
Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon in aid of a donkey-riding therapy charity
based in Manchester.

Lesley
Ross is a keen runner and is inspired to take on the challenge as her
eight-year old cousin, who has autism, attends The Elisabeth Centre for
Children and Donkeys (EST).

She
says: "David has been attending the centre for the last 18 months and
in that time his confidence has improved greatly thanks to the
calming influence of the donkeys and the patience and understanding of
the staff of the centre.

"I
am very dedicated to the training that I am carrying out in preparation
for the marathon, and am spending hours on the treadmill and pounding
the streets of Edinburgh.  I have reached 18.5miles at the moment!

Lesley hopes fellow runners, family, friends and work colleagues will help her raise the minimum sponsorship of £500 for EST.

The
EST charity which provides valuable riding-therapy to approximately 150
children with special needs at each of its centres every week relies on
donations like Lesley's to continue its work.

Amanda
Gordon, EST's press officer, says: "We are extremely grateful to Lesley
for taking part in the marathon and we wish her all the best."
