Edinburgh runners asked to put in a marathon effort for ChildLine

The NSPCC is urging people from Edinburgh to
help the charity answer every child's cry for help by running in the
Edinburgh Marathon and raising funds for its ChildLine service.

Last year the charity opened a new ChildLine base
in Edinburgh, so that it can answer more calls from children and young
people in danger or distress and introduce new text and online
counselling services. Raising funds by running in the marathon on
Sunday 31st May, will help ChildLine be there for every vulnerable child who turns to the service for support.

The NSPCC has guaranteed places in the event for
runners who meet a minimum sponsorship target and also wants people who
have their own place in the marathon to raise funds for ChildLine.

Sarah Morley, NSPCC Community Fundraiser said:
"At the moment ChildLine is able to answer two-thirds of the 2.3
million calls it receives each year from children from all parts of the
UK.  But just imagine what happens to the children who turn to us for
help and don't get through because we simply do not have enough
resources to answer them, the first time they call. That's why we need
as many people as possible to run for us. By joining the
NSPCC/ChildLine team, you will do far more than running a marathon.
With every penny raised you will help to make sure another child's cry
for help is heard."

Runners who register with the NSPCC to join the
Edinburgh marathon will receive a sponsorship pack, exclusive running
vest and expert training advice. The minimum sponsor target for
guaranteed places is £600. There is no target for those running in
their own place.
