New Tattoo DVD set for October release
A
new Edinburgh Tattoo DVD featuring highlights of this year's celebrated
59th Castle Esplanade spectacular is set for international release on
October 20th.
The
90-minute recording includes previously unseen footage of performers as
distinctive and diverse as the United States Golden Eagles Marching Band from
South East Missouri State University, Norway's acclaimed King's Guards Band and
Drill Team, a colourful 100-strong Singaporean Police ensemble, the renowned Indian
Army Chief's Military Band from New Delhi, and the all-girl Lochiel Champion
Marching Drill Team from Wellington in New Zealand.
It
also features the world-famous Massed Pipes & Drums, a multi-national
Massed Highland Dance troupe, and the stirring music of the Massed Military
Bands, which embraced the exceptional abilities of the Bands of Her Majesty's
Royal Marines and The Royal Regiment of Scotland. Plus, exciting extracts are
also included of the special presentation of piping, drumming and dancing
provided by pupils from Queen
Victoria
School
in Dunblane, which marked its centenary year in 2008.
Tattoo
Chief Executive & Producer, Major General Euan
Loudon said: "The BBC has, I believe,
captured the very essence of this summer's popular Tattoo production, which
showcased the best of Scotland's
heritage and culture alongside a wealth of talent from overseas."
The
programme comes complete with musical favourites such as Scotland the Brave, Heilan' Laddie and the acclaimed theme tune
from The Last of the Mohicans film soundtrack, The Gael, composed by one of Scotland's pre-eminent
singer-songwriters, Dougie MacLean.
Unreleased
extras on the DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette focusing on activities
beyond the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle, and a video news release, which
provides a flavour of the rich variety on show at this year's Military
showpiece event.
The
film of the 59th Tattoo was recorded by the BBC and includes the
voice of famous Scottish actor and narrator Tom Fleming, while West
Linton-based film production company, Electric Picture Machine, produced the
extra material for the DVD.
