Digital cameras have changed the nature of photography and in our daily lives, we are likely to run into more and more great images in all media forms. Photosharing websites such as FLICKR have also become repositories for the best work of many amateur and semi-professional photographers. The internet makes presenting work easy and many people have made a name for themselves through this new channel.
The Unreal Edinburgh group is a collection of such work from a number of serious photographers based mainly in Edinburgh. The group's members have submitted contributions for this exhibition based on the criteria that the picture is identifiably of Edinburgh and has some unreal, quirky or almost magical quality about it.
With the help of the creative consultancy Omnia, the images from the group have been selected, printed and mounted specifically for this exhibition, the space for which has been provided by the Radisson Hotel on Edinburgh's High Street.
The result is a varied set of startling and unique photographs of Scotland's beautiful capital city. Familiar views have been revisited and represented, while new and fascinating views have been discovered. The skill of the photographers involved is obvious and their keenness to contribute to the exhibition has made this event a collaborative success.
The exhibition opens on Saturday 9th August and runs throughout the Festival period.

The Radisson Hotel is in Edinburgh's High Street just east (down the hill towards the Palace) of the junction of the High Street with North Bridge. This view looks south east across that junction directly at the Radisson. Click on image to access Google maps reference and hotel details.
