Do You Dare
To Dangle?
The Fire Fighters Charity is offering courageous daredevils the
opportunity to abseil down the world's tallest rotating
boatlift - The Falkirk Wheel, whilst
raising funds to help the Charity that helps injured Fire Fighters through therapy and recuperation.
This exhilarating event,
taking place on Sunday, 28th September, allows those brave enough to
take up this exciting challenge with Central Scotland Fire & Rescue and
International Rescue!! Those who don't have the bottle to take part themselves are
quite welcome to watch the fire fighters and daring members of the public, dangle
from the 115ft
high structure.
To participate, all you
need to do is pay £10 per person to register and then raise a minimum of £75 sponsorship. There will be prizes and additional rewards
for those that raise exceptional amounts of sponsorship money. And the prize for Top Fundraiser is a choice
of either a chance to become a fire fighter for the day at Central Scotland Fire &
Rescue Services or half a day with International Rescue on their Boat, learning
what it takes to be a real life rescue hero!
The Fire Fighters Fundraising
Manager, Margaret Barnes Smith, explained: "We are offering members of the
public and Fire Service personnel, a fantastic opportunity to experience a
genuine buzz and also raise money for a great cause. The Fire Fighters Charity
supports the fire community and their families. When there is a blaze, fire
fighters are the only ones running in as everyone else is running out. Despite
the very best training and bravery, accidents will happen and we are here to
pick up the pieces. After all, these heroes don't think twice before saving us.
Now we need to save these heroes when they are in need."
The Falkirk Wheel is the
world's only rotating boat lift and a feat of design and engineering. The experience promises to be thrilling for both adrenalin junkies and
more land-loving types, with all participants welcome!
The Fire Fighters Charity - Every year, thousands of fire fighters are injured
whilst protecting the public. Every 30 seconds in the UK, fire fighters are called
to an incident, putting their lives on the line, and often sustaining physical
injuries whilst carrying out their duties. The Fire Fighters Charity is here
for fire fighters during their times of need, and assists over 13,000
individuals every year, by providing pioneering treatment and support
services.
The modern, dynamic and
award-winning charity has three UK centres, located in Cumbria, Devon and West Sussex, which offer varying
combinations of therapy and recuperation services. The Charity's
pioneering new Beneficiary Support Services also offer local and remote
assistance to people in need nationwide. It costs over £9 million every
year to keep the Charity running, and with no government funding, the Charity
are completely reliant upon donations from the general public and fire
community.
