The BAFTA interview with Bob Hoskins, one of the headline events of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, has had to be cancelled at the 11th hour. The actor, who stars in forthcoming romantic comedy Sparkle, is said to be recovering from surgery on his shoulder. Hoskins was due to also appear in Edinburgh for the Gala opening of the film, which screens today and tomorrow. Hoskins plays a shy Londoner who carries a flame for the hero's mother in a romantic subplot in the film. The BAFTA interview was scheduled for tomorrow.
The EIFF apology on the web site says:
"It is with deepest regret that we have to inform you that Bob Hoskins will not be able to attend the BAFTA interview and the GALA screening of SPARKLE at this years Edinburgh Film Festival. Mr Hoskins has recently undergone surgery to his shoulder and in recuperation ,[sic] and much as he is disappointed not to be able to come, he is still in pain, and it would risk further exacerbating his shoulder.
If you have bought tickets for this event, the box office team will be in contact with you to arrange a refund."
