The seventh annual Edinburgh Art Festival will open on Thursday 29 July 2010 running until Sunday 5 September 2010. The Festival, which offers a special summer platform for Edinburgh galleries and artists to showcase specially-curated work, will feature exhibitions in venues across the city along with a programme of associated events, artist talks, workshops, tours and the ever popular Art Late.
A highlight of the 2010 Festival will be the unveiling of a new work from the 2009 Turner Prize winner, Richard Wright (pictured), commissioned for the Edinburgh Art Festival with support from the Scottish Government’s Expo Fund. Wright will make a special artwork in the towers of the historic Dean Gallery (Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art).
A second EAF Expo commission is the creation of a permanent artwork by 2001 Turner Prize winner, Martin Creed, on the Scotsman Steps (a work that is being curated by Fiona Bradley, Director of the Fruitmarket Gallery).
Details of a third EAF Expo commission will be announced in the coming weeks.
