The Grassmarket is set to host a national 'Playday' event tomorrow. Children will be able to take part in a range of activities across a variety of play areas. The event has been organised as part of the City Council's play strategy to promote the many benefits of imaginative play to parents and communities.
This year's Playday theme is 'Make Time' and the Council is using the event to highlight the importance of making time to play for all children, wherever they may play in Edinburgh. The activities aim to demonstrate the huge variety of ways to play. On offer will be sand and water play, wheeled toys, creative construction, active play, a chill out zone and storytelling.
City Children & Families Leader, Cllr Marilyne MacLaren, said:
"Making time to play is important for any child and Playday gives us a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and promote the many benefits of play. The more creative parents and communities are about encouraging children to play, the more the child will benefit in terms of their health and development.
"Through our play strategy we want to demonstrate that play doesn't rely on expensive toys or having a back garden, it's about helping kids use their imagination and not wrapping them up in cotton wool."
