The English women's cricket team have shown the men the way by winning the recent women's cricket World Cup in Australia. A woman (England's Claire Taylor) was chosen as one of the five players of the year by cricketing almanack Wisden for the first time since the publication started naming the best cricketers in 1889.
Now the first-ever Cricket Scotland coaching camp for girls in Edinburgh is to be held at the National Cricket Academy this Easter.
Girls are being invited to pad up for the new cricket camp which is being held just weeks after the highly successful International Cricket Council Women's World Cup.
The cricket coaching is just one of a series of sporting activities being co-ordinated by City of Edinburgh Council for school children over the Easter break.
Cllr Marilyne Maclaren, Convener for Education, Children and Families, said: "It's tremendous that Cricket Scotland have organised this new Girls Coaching Camp. The recent headlines created by the Women's Cricket World Cup will hopefully inspire our next generation of female cricketers to aim for similar heights.
"The whole Easter Holiday Programme is geared towards getting school children of all abilities active rather than staying at home with their feet up in front of the television."
Lea Tsui, Cricket Scotland's new Girls' and Women's Development Officer, said: "The camp is open to players of all abilities and is a positive and exciting step by Cricket Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council.
"It would be great to think that girls who come to the camp may one day be playing in the Women's World Cup."
In addition to the girls cricket camp there are opportunities for boys to develop their cricketing skills.
Easter courses are also available in rugby and football at various venues in the city throughout the two weeks.
