The programme for the 67th Edinburgh International Film Festival (19-30 June) will showcase 146 features from 53 countries, including 14 World premieres, 6 International premieres and 10 European premieres.
The Festival will open with the previously announced European Premiere of Sundance hit Breathe In, from Like Crazy director Drake Doremus.
Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, which stars Harry Potter star Emma Watson and which just had its world premiere at Cannes, is also lined up. Other highlights include Noah Baumbach’s millennial, black-and-white comedy set in NYC Frances Ha (pictured), and David Sedaris adaptation C.O.G.
Among this year's innovations is a new strand entitled Not Another Teen Movie, programmed by EIFF’s Young Programmers team, featuring films aimed at 15-19 year-olds.
Among Scottish films is a documentary about two Scots who reinvent themselves as West Coast U.S homeboys, faking their way in the fame game in The Great Hip Hop Hoax.
Korea and Sweden are spotlighted in this year's EIFF, with director Ryoo Seung-wan’s action thriller The Berlin File and, in the International Competition, Kang Yi-kwan’s Juvenile Offender among the six Korean films.
Focus on Sweden looks at subjects as diverse as love and memory in Belleville Baby and the sex scandal centred around Sweden’s government in Call Girl.
British Film
There are 12 films vying for the prestigious Michael Powell Award for best new British feature film: Blackbird, Dummy Jim, Everyone’s Going to Die, For Those in Peril, Leviathan, A Long Way from Home, Mister John, The Sea, Svengali, uwantme2killhim?, We Are the Freaks, and Not Another Happy Ending.
This year also sees the return of the Audience Award with support from Sainsbury’s Bank. A total of 16 films are in contention.
The festival will also feature a Black Box experimental selection, Animation strand, Shorts, and an In Person event with Scots actor Robert Carlyle.
Two filmmakers featuring in retrospectives are French impressionist filmmaker Jean Grémillon and director Richard Fleischer, in a programme which continues at Filmhouse in June and July.The selection includes dystopian classic Soylent Green and film noir The Narrow Margin.
The Festival wraps on 30 June with the World Premiere of John McKay’s Scotland-set film Not Another Happy Ending, starring Karen Gillan, Stanley Webber, and Kate Dickie.
