The Scottish Arts Club and EdinburghGuide.com have announced the winner of their second annual Scottish Fringe Theatre Award.
The award, which recognises the best Scottish contribution to Drama on the Fringe, has been won by ThickSkin’s The Static, written by Davey Anderson (Underbelly Cowgate).
The judges commmented that The Static is "a great ensemble theatrical piece."
Joint runners up are Educating Ronnie created by Joe Douglas and Gareth Nicholls, produced by Macrobert and Utters, in association with High Tide Festival Theatre (Assembly, George Square) and Wojtek the Bear by Raymond Raszkowski Ross, Theatre Objektiv (Hill Street Theatre).
The judges said Educating Ronnie is "a delightful and complete piece of theatre making" and Wojtek the Bear is "surprising and dangerous in its writing with brilliant equally dangerous performances".
The 2012 panel of judges was Liz Smith, John Scott Moncrieff, Joyce Caplan, Susanah Armitage, and Thomas Murdock, with contributions from Irene Brown of EdinburghGuide.com. The panel was chaired by Catherine Robins.
A special unique sculptural award has been produced by a member of the Arts Club, and will be presented in a ceremony at the Scottish Arts Club on Sunday 26 August at 18.30 by Guy Masterson.
Last year's winner of the Scottish Fringe Theatre Award was One Thousand Paper Cranes.
