One of the most notorious characters in Scottish history will be setting up residence at Edinburgh Dungeon this February 12th as Edinburgh’s scariest attraction launches its new 2011 feature, Sawney Bean: Cave of the Cannibals.
Petrified punters will be hurled into the horrendous tale of the Sawney Bean clan’s murderous deeds in the sixteenth century . . . and will encounter the bloodthirsty Beans for themselves.
In the 1500s, Sawney Bean and his 48 strong incestuous brood held a reign of terror over the Scottish highlands. Traveller’s falling foul of Bean’s pack were murdered with brutal ferocity, robbed of their earthly goods and devoured.
The clan’s reign came to a bloody end when armed soldiers sent in a search party from King James VI of Scotland (later King James 1st of England) discovered their lair littered with human remains. The clan were swiftly sentenced to agonising deaths.
With live actors, special effects and stomach turning scenery, the Edinburgh Dungeon’s new feature challenges visitors to become the soldiers of King James the VI and end the Beans’ ghastly inhuman crimes.
But as visitors creep into the dark, foul smelling Bean lair, the bones of lost travellers crunching beneath their feet, they will soon realise they are not alone in the darkness…. the hunters have become the hunted.
The Edinburgh Dungeon’s Sawney Bean: Cave of the Cannibals creaks open its doors 12th February this coming half term.
