SHOCKWAVES NME AWARDS SHOWS 2008
MOVE NORTH
FOR VERY FIRST TIME
DUE TO MASSIVE PUBLIC DEMAND, MANCHESTER AND GLASGOW SHOWS ADDED
For
the very first time, the Shockwaves NME
Awards Shows 2008 will make their mark on Manchester
and Glasgow
for a series of seriously hot gigs, happening throughout February. NME recently announced a month long festival
of music happening in London
but following public demand Manchester
and Glasgow
will now also host awards shows. Music fans can experience more than 120 brilliant
bands, over 32 nights, in 3 major cities, building the ultimate buzz ahead of
the Shockwaves NME Awards 2008.
With
an eclectic line up that mixes grime, baggy, new rave and stadium rock, there’s
going to be a band, on a stage, in a venue, in a city, to suit everyone
throughout February – summer is starting early, thanks to the Shockwaves NME Awards Shows 2008.
As
well as the run of London Shows that traditionally happen in the build up to
the annual rock ‘n’ roll music fest that is the Shockwaves NME Awards, the Shows will move in on Manchester’s
Academy, Academy 2 and Apollo plus Glasgow’s
Barrowland, ABC, Classic Grand and Garage venues throughout February.
Meanwhile several more bands have signed up to play
London. Babyshambles will play Carling Academy Brixton with the Courteeners
supporting (February 11), while The Horrors will play the Astoria (12) with Crystal Castles supporting. The likes of
Maps, Blood Red Shoes, MGMT are among the bands joining the bills across the
month
The
Shockwaves NME Awards Shows have a
hard-earned reputation for showcasing the very best in both new and established
music talent and this year’s line-up is once again testament to this. With a
swarm of today’s hottest talent swooping on Manchester and Glasgow, including
headline performances from The Cribs,
Richard Hawley, Justice,
Babyshambles, Black Francis, CSS, Dizzee Rascal, The Wombats and Young
Knives, these shows CANNOT and
MUST NOT be missed!
Conor McNicholas NME editor said: " For the
last few years I've spoken to music fans across the UK who have – despite the excitement of the
Shockwaves NME Awards Tour – eyed the London Shows jealously and complained
about the focus on the capital. I wanted to change that and finally we can now
bring this celebration of live music to both Manchester and Glasgow. Doing the gigs is an achievement in itself but
doing it with this brilliant line-up is amazing. Today Manchester and Glasgow. Tomorrow, well, who knows where it might
end?"
NME
keeps its finger firmly on the pulse and both Manchester and Glasgow have firmly established themselves as all important
places in the UK
which breed, showcase, champion and celebrate major musical happenings – the Shockwaves NME Awards Shows moving to Manchester and Glasgow are musical matches made in heaven!
