Event: Ninth Anniversary Re-launch of Edinburgh Farmers' Market
NINE YEARS AND STILL FRESH
The Ninth Anniversary Relaunch of Edinburgh Farmers' Market takes place on Saturday 6th June 2009.
Now a Saturday institution for many, the award-winning Farmers' Market will be a-buzz with the popping corks and roasting organic chicken.
Neil Forbes, Head Chef at the Atrium Restaurant, will be demonstrating how to cook some of Scotland's finest fresh food al fresco throughout the morning and there will be special offers, entertainment and a prize draw to win £50 of vouchers to spend on fantastic produce.
The Farmers' Market began in June 2000 and since then, has gone from strength to strength with 64 producers and stall-holders now regularly attending, mostly primary producers, rearing or growing what they sell. Produce includes organic fish, fowl, meat and game with wild boar, venison, ostrich and water buffalo making a regular appearance.
The Farmers' Market is key to enabling many local producers to survive, grow and prosper in these difficult times, generating over £1million in revenue annually, with an average footfall each week of 5000.
The Farmers' Market is held every Saturday, year-round, from 9.00 am to 2.00pm at Castle Terrace beneath the unbeatable backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.
