Mini Revolution Sparks Major Award For Pizzeria
A Scottish pizzeria has scooped a major award thanks to thinking small over its home deliveries.
La Favorita uses a fleet of Minis to allow it to whiz around homes and businesses with pizza orders.
The clever marketing trick has now helped the Edinburgh restaurant pick up the platinum award for Best Independent Delivery Service for the second year running in the Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Association (PAPA) awards.
The 21st annual PAPA awards in London were attended by 400 leading figures from the Italian food industry.
This latest accolade came just weeks after the restaurant became the first pizzeria in Scotland to scoop a prestigious AA Rosette award.
Tony Crolla, proprietor of La Favorita, on Edinburgh’s Leith Walk, said: “We are delighted our high standards have helped La Favorita secure a second platinum win.
“The fact that this award comes on the back of the restaurant’s recent AA Rosette win is an added bonus.
“The fleet of minis our delivery staff use to deliver our fresh log-oven baked pizzas have been a huge success since we got them two years ago.
Platinum Awards were awarded to three restaurants in recognition of outstanding achievement. Seven Italian and four pizza restaurants across the UK were given Gold Awards in recognition of their exceptional standards.
In 2005 and 2007 La Favorita won gold at the PAPA Awards for Pizza Restaurant and in 2005 Tony was named Pizza Designer of the Year for his fishy Pizza Favorita which included ingredients such as smoked salmon, caviar, crème fraiche and lemon rinds.
La Favorita also won the pizza delivery prize in 2008.
Tony also owns Edinburgh’s two Vittorias restaurants, on Leith Walk and George IV Bridge.
