INTERNATIONAL INDIAN CHEF OF THE YEAR

A worldwide free-to-enter competition for both amateur and professional cooks founded by Tommy Miah to promote
innovation and quality in Indian cuisine

Chairman of Judges:   Lord Fraser of Carmyllie Q.C.

DOUBLE TRIUMPH FOR NORTHAMPTON
CHEF

Tipu Rahman, owner of Tamarind
Restaurant scored a double triumph on Friday to win the International Indian
Chef of the Year 2009 title against extremely tough competition from other
expert cooks .

In addition to the winner's  £1000 prize, Tipu also walked off  with the £250 Lady

Fraser Prize for the best vegetarian
dish.

The finalists, chosen for the
excellence of their menus for a four-dish meal, had two-and-a-half hours to
cook their ideal meal  in the training
kitchens of Edinburgh's

Telford College and present it to table for judges to taste.

Judges monitored the cooking and
sampled all the dishes before reaching their verdict.

Lord Fraser said the contest
regularly attracted outstanding cooks and he said he was delighted that this
year there had been more emphasis of the actual taste of the dishes, rather
than on presentation.

Second place went to Vivek
Kashiwale, of  the  Bird by Vineet  restaurant in Leeds.
