Al Gore's television channel Current TV is in Edinburgh during the film festival and is holding a couple of open events tomorrow. The channel, which is looking to acquire short films for its station, is holding a panel discussion on self-distribution, entitled Take Your Short and Shove It. That's tomorrow at 11am, at the Cameo.
Then in the afternoon they are holding the Curent Penthouse Pitch at the Point Hotel from 1pm to 6pm, which is a chance to pitch an idea and get a commission. "Everyone is welcome," the promotional postcard says. "Pitch you idea, get a commission from Current TV and drink some free beer with us!" Makes the movie industry sound a breeze.
Current pays anything from £30 upwards for 10 minute shorts and commissions are usually for short form pieces that have a quick turnaround.
If you miss the event you can also pitch ideas through the web site at Current TV.
For more advanced projects, you might also find Peter Broderick on movie self-distribution models useful.
