A musical romp through the trials and tribulations of sperm donation and what it means to bring life into the world; this is a wonderfully uplifting and heart-felt look at parenthood as a gay man. There are puns a plenty that will make you laugh and groan in equal measure.
Darby is an engaging performer and easily engages us with their witty rhymes and repartee. They have a powerful singing voice, and the verses seem to trip off their tongue with great humour but also thoughtful exploration about what every step of the journey means. There are clearly deep and meaningful considerations about being a donor parent, even if that child is not to be brought up by the donor. This feels like a plea for us all to consider what parenting means and what it also means to be a child on this planet, let alone a child conceived by donor sperm.
An award-winning musical performed by an accomplished and skilful performer, this show will not only entertain you but leave you thinking about what our existence means. It is fun, reflective and full of great tunes – one for you if you love great musical theatre with a warm, comedic heart.
