Inverleith Festival of Walking and Cycling 2017

Time & place
Description

The Inverleith Festival of Walking & Cycling 2017 takes place on Sunday 24th September 2017 from 1pm to 4.30pm in Inverleith Park.

There will be many free activities, tasters and information on how to enjoy getting fit, taking a little exercise daily on foot or by bike.

To kick off the Festival is the Guided Family and buggy-friendly Walk with ramblers starting at 1pm. Participants for the Walk should sign up in advance for free tickets at Eventbrite (see the attached link above).

The Meeting-up point is the Monument in the centre of the park. From here the route will follow the path towards the Royal Botanic Garden (John Hope entrance) and then across the garden to the East Gate, down Inverleith Row to Rocheid Path, along the tranquil Water of Leith leading back to Inverleith Park. The Walk will take around one hour at a leisurely pace with time to enjoy the Royal Botanic Garden.

Around Inverleith Park there will be a range of activities for all ages and abilities such as walking football, a cycling obstacle course, Nordic walking, guided walks and basic bicycle checks.

The Inverleith Allotments is about to celebrate its centenary. The site was created in 1918 to grow food for ex-servicemen after WW1, but reverted to parkland between the Wars. For many years it has been a flourishing garden for growing vegetables, herbs, plants and flowers by the enthusiastic horticulturalists who look after their plots with great care. Visitors can enjoy a guided tour finishing off with tea or coffee, with surplus vegetables available - donations welcome.

Allotment Tours: every 15 mins from 1.30pm-2.30pm. Please wear suitable footwear for the uneven ground. (No dogs and buggies permitted).

At 3.00pm join a Nature Walk with members of The Friends of Inverleith Park - meet at their information stall in the marquee.
