The Brunton has programmed an eclectic mix of music for this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe for a bucketful of entertainment, and tickets are on sale now.
This year audiences can escape the hustle and bustle and seize the chance to hear the classical stars of tomorrow by enjoying a showcase of the Royal Conservatoire’s finest piano students in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Pianos @1, an exciting nine concert series. Programmes feature classics from the piano repertoire alongside a few surprises along the way.
Following sell out shows at The Brunton 2011-2013, Prestonpans singer Alex Hodgson returns with another extravaganza showcasing songs, from his newly released album on Greentrax, in a show woven and entwined with stories, laughter and fun for the whole family.
For jazz lovers there are two outstanding concerts featuring multi-award winning jazz vocalist Niki King in her highly anticipated new show The Songs of Duke Ellington where she pays tribute to the timeless songs and musical genius of one of the greatest jazz musicians and composers of the 20th century. King, whose accolades include winner of the Perrier Jazz Vocal Award, The Scottish Style Award and The Spirit Of Scotland Music Medal, will be joined by her quintet featuring a stellar line up of award winning Scottish and international players. Also performing is The Scottish Swing Orchestra with The Story of Swing, where they recreate the sounds of those great bands,that became the first worldwide pop phenomenon and a byword teenage excess well before the Swinging Sixties.
We 3 Tenors sees Phantom of the Opera star John Marshall joined by Scottish tenor Fraser Simpson, American Bruce Davis and renowned pianist Richard Lewis to bring some of the greatest hits from Opera and Broadway.
Keep Smiling Through lets audiences the war years with a show that uses extracts from diaries, local newspapers and radio news bulletins, together with forgotten songs of the time that can be sung along to.
Blazin’ Fiddles return to celebrate the title of Folk Band of the Year at the Scot Trad Music Awards 2013 and promoting their latest album Six with a new line up.
Premier tribute acts include Them Beatles, who with unparalleled attention to musical and visual detail are one of the UK’s most authentic tribute acts; The Dolly Parton Story, featuring Andrea Pattison and the Partoners, is a new show paying tribute to one of the greatest icons of popular music and Mac Floyd– who promise a stunning performance of Pink Floyd’s greatest hits accompanied by a lights and lasers.
And for children The Singing Kettle return with Jungle Party, a sing-a-long party special.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest arts festival in the world and it looks like The Brunton in Musselburgh has something to suit all musical tastes.
