Scottish artist Kate Robinson has erected a massive sand castle on Edinburgh's Castle Street this week as part of a promotion by Spanish airline company Spanair, who have launched direct flights from Edinburgh to Barcelona.

The creation celebrates the cultural links between the two cities by representing famous landmarks from both cities, with a sand sculpture of the Gaudi cathedral of Barcelona placed alongside Edinburgh castle.

The twist is that the sculpture will also be hiding 100 Spanair flight tickets to Barcelona. Scots are invited to register on www.youshouldbeinbarcelonarightnow.com to have the chance of getting their hands on one of the tickets (an ID card or passport number are required - see Spanair's privacy policy).

Once registered, the first 100 people to arrive at Castle Street for the sculpture’s unveiling on Saturday 22nd May at 10am will each be given 1 minute to dig through it to find a ticket.

Says Nuria Tarré Spanair Sales Director: “Edinburgh and Barcelona are two of the must-visit destinations in Europe. Spanair hopes that the wonderful sculpture we are creating in Castle Street will represent the strong bonds that exist between Scotland and Catalunya with regards to culture, language and education."

Today sees the first flights between Edinburgh and Barcelona. Flights operate five times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. By the end of the year it is expected that 30,000 passengers will have flown between the two cities.
