This is the second year that the adrenaline-driven 48-Hour Film
Project, where teams of filmmakers write, direct, and edit a short film
from start to finish in the course of a sleepless weekend, returns to
Edinburgh.
The project, which was launched in Washington DC in 2001, took place in 70 cities around the world in 2008. Last year's winner Lee Archer recently returned from the Miami
International Film Festival, where he wore a kilt to Filmapalooza, the
International Finals of the 48 Hour Film Project. Archer's film, Travel
Plans, starred well-known local actor Jimmy Chisolm.
The competition follows what is now a well-established format: filmmaking teams register for £45 to enter, then meet at the Cameo Cinema bar on Friday, May 22, where they will receive a character, prop, and line of dialogue. They will then pull a genre out of a hat, and use these elements to make a film which must be delivered at the Cameo on Sunday, May 24. All films will be screened at the Cameo May 26, 27 & 28.
The 2009 Edinburgh Winner will be invited to attend the 2009
Filmapalooza in Las Vegas, and he or she will win the Grand Prize of
Avid Media Composer, industry standard editing
software with a retail value of £1,932. Other prizes include DVDs from
Scottish Screen, tickets to the Edinburgh International Film Festival,
books from Wallflower Press and a Cameo Cinema Membership.
All entrants receive 20% off equipment hire from Progressive
Broadcast, a free issue of Electric Sheep magazine, free IRN-BRU, and a
free pizza party thrown by Domino's.
There is a Preview Party on Wednesday, April 29, 7:30pm at the GRV
on Guthrie Street, where attendees will have the chance to meet fellow
filmmakers.
