Edinburgh Riding of the Marches
The Edinburgh Riding of the Marches was first recorded in 1579 and was held on a regular basis up until 1718. As a one-off to mark the end of the war the ride took place in 1946. It is expected that 250 horses will be participating in the 2009 ride.
The 2009 ride will take place on Sunday 6th September, where the Riders will head out through countryside on the South of the City into the Pentlands then back to the Braid Hills. After a short break the cavalcade will ride into the city centre for the finale which will be a procession up the Royal Mile to the Mercat Cross, where the declaration will be made to the Lord Provost. The ride will conclude in the Grassmarket area of the City.
Miller's Town & Country donated the New Flag to the City in a ceremony with the Lord Provost George Grubb at Mercat Cross, and has helped with the kitting out of the three main principal riders - Ian Douglas (Captain Elect), Steve McGill (First Officer) and Ian Whyte (Second Officer).
