Britain votes for a new government today - at least, those who haven't already voted in advance by post.

If you recently turned 18 make sure you are registered to vote by 20th April - a healthy democracy only works if everyone takes part, especially the youth of today who will inherit the policies brought in by the new government.

Polling booths open between 7am and 10pm. Counting of votes will begin when the polls close.

The following are deadline dates for your vote:

  • Registering to vote, by Monday 20 April
  • Postal vote applications, by 5pm Tuesday 21 April
  • Proxy vote applications, by 5pm Tuesday 28 April
  • Emergency proxy applications by, 5pm Thursday 7 May
