Description

A Christmas Day Bank Holiday takes place on the 25th December if it's a weekday.

If Christmas Day is on the weekend - Christmas Day 2027, for example, is on a Saturday - then the bank holiday takes place on the following Monday.

Today is also a Council "Parking Holiday".

You can park free of charge in public parking bays and on single yellow lines on these dates, although parking holidays do not carry over to the next working day.

Christmas in Edinburgh

The Christmas season in Edinburgh typically begins in late November with Christmas Light Night or the Opening Concert in Edinburgh's New Town continues through Christmas Day and on to the three-day Edinburgh's Hogmanay festival. Scotland used to celebrate the New Year more than Christmas, but that has changed.

The centre of Edinburgh has many Christmas activities each year over the festive season, as part of the annual Edinburgh's Christmas festival. These include everything from ice skating to kids' rides in Princes Street Garden.

Most of the official attractions are closed on Christmas Day.
